Teriyaki chicken 照燒雞肉
With homemade teriyaki sauce.
Teriyaki chicken is a popular Japanese dish that consists of grilled or broiled chicken that has been marinated in a sweet and savory sauce made from soy sauce, mirin, sake, and sugar. The chicken is often served with steamed rice and vegetables.
Teriyaki chicken is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that can be enjoyed as a weeknight dinner or as part of a larger meal. It is also a great dish to make ahead of time and pack for lunches or picnics.
Ingredients:
1 chicken leg with skin
Salt and pepper
1 big onion
Sauce:
3 tbs soya sauce
2 tbs saki
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon crystal sugar
1 tbs mirin
We start by making the teriyaki sauce.
Add all the sauce ingredients into your frying pan and let it boil until it has the thickness you like. Usually the sauce is ready when it bubbles up with big bubbles.
Fry the onion as shown in the video, and note that we add a teaspoon of sugar and a teaspoon of light soya sauce. We are always using gluten free versions.
Bone out the chicken leg. We show and easy way to do it in the video.
Fry the chicken meat with the skin side down, on a dry frying pan.
You should salt both sides of the chicken, and only pepper on the meat side.
Fry the meat well, and see to that the skin is crispy.
And you can decorate to your own liking. We used some small tomatoes and cucumber.
TIP:
You can multiply the sauce recipe many times to make a big portion, that you can keep for later use. Keep it in the refrigerator and use when ever you feel like a nice spice sauce.
We will later make teriyaki salmon so we can show some other ideas for the use of teriyaki.
